November 5 BCC Jazz Ensemble to Perform at Phelps Mansion Museum, 191 Court St., Binghamton. 7-8:30 p.m. $10 admission includes refreshments. Come here this group of BCC students. faculty and alums as well as community members play music from the Big Band Era and since - the 1940s through the present. Part of the proceeds will support the Phelps Mansion Museum Scholarship for a BCC student focusing on the arts. Call Jill Weston at 607-239-4353 for more information. November 9 Ewa Mackiewicz-Wolfe, pianist, and Stephen Stalker, cellist, will perform as part of the Second Sunday Chamber Music Series at Phelps Mansion Museum, 191 Court St., Binghamton. They will play works by J. S. Bach, Franz Liszt, Fryderyk Chopin, and also Edward Grieg's Sonata for Cello and Piano. Both musicians are professors of music at Binghamton University and have performed widely. 3-5 p.m., $10 admission includes a wine and hors d'oeuvres reception with the artist. This concert is made possible with a grant from the United Cultural Fund of the Broome County Arts Council and funds from the NYS Council on the Arts administered by the Chenango County Council of the Arts. Call Harold Manker at 607- 797-3822 for more information. November 10 5:30-7:00 p.m. "Upstate New York Women Gain Votes for Women: Matilda Joslyn Gage, Forgotten Feminist." Dr. Sally Roesch Wagner, executive director of the Matilda Joslyn Gage Foundation and the Historic Gage House in Fayetteville, NY, will speak at 6 p.m. at Phelps Mansion Museum, 191 Court St., Binghamton. Wine and hors d'oeuvres will be available at 5:30, followed by the program at 6 p.m. Both the program and refreshments are free and open to the public. Mrs. Gage, who was born in Cicero, NY, was a progressive visionary of women's rights and human liberation who worked with both Susan B. Anthony and Elizabeth Cady Stanton in seeking the vote for women.The three women compiled and edited the 3-volume History of Woman Suffrage. Gage was founder of the National Woman Suffrage Association in 1869, and helped found the NYS Woman Suffrage Association. She was also the author of many articles, papers and books. Married, she was the mother of five children. She died in Chicago in 1898 at the home of her daughter Maud and son-in-law, L. Frank Baum, author of the Wonderful Wizard of Oz. This program is supported by funding from the NYS Council for the Humanities Spekaers Program, an affiliate of the National Endowment for the Humanities. Vendors will offer items from homemade sweets to holiday treats; from estate jewelry to clay bead jewelry made by women of Kenya, East Africa; from ceramics to homemade fashion bags; from paintings by local artists to recycled painted furniture. Come see an artist weaving a romantic scarf just for you, or buy some handcrafted all-natural soaps, lotions and shower gels, and much, much more from local and regional vendors. $5 admission. Open Fri., Nov. 14 and Sat., Nov. 15 from 10 a.m. - 5 p.m. Luncheon available Fri. and Sat. from 11:30-2:30 at $12. Open Sun., Nov. 16, from 12 noon - 4 p.m. Victorian Holiday Tea on Sunday with seatings at 12:30, 1:30 and 2:30; $15 which includes admission to the Shoppes.
