How to make Christmas Sand Tarts
A Pennsylvania Dutch family recipe for the mother of all Cookies. Sand Tarts This is a Pennsylvania Dutch recipe for the best holiday cookies in all the land. 2 cups sugar 4 cups flour 2 Sticks Room Temp Blue Bonnet Margarine 6 egg yolks 1 tsp baking soda dissolved in 1 tsp hot water 1 egg for egg wash Topping - dash of cinammon Cream sugar and margarine Add egg yolks and baking soda mixture Add flour one cup at a time Roll between floured wax paper until very thin Cut with Cookie Cutters Place on cookie sheets greased with crisco Brush with egg wash, sprinkle with cinnamon and colored sugars. Bake at 375 degrees on an ungreased cookie sheet for 8-10 minutes until crisp. Give the ones you overcook to your husband, boyfriend or kids . . . Watch the cookies carefully ~ because they will cook very quickly! I Swear Chapter 31
Okay, so I forgot to put in the last chapter, I now have 133 subbers! only 17 left to go until I reach 150! Thanks guys! Oh, I'm making a Christmas video for you guys. I'm gonna try to find the sheet music to "Joy to the World(A Christmas Prayer)" by Nick Jonas, and if I can't, then I'll just play Silent Night or something, but it'll def be on flute. [: Here's Chapter 31... ----------------------------------- I can't believe I thought Joe was cheating on me! What in the world was I thinking?! Was I on drugs?! He was the greatest guy in the world and I felt horrible for accusing him of cheating on me. I should have known he was just trying to do something sweet for me. I wish I wasn't so nosey. He probably thought I was insane after that little scenario. My birthday was now only 2 days away and Nikki and I spent as much time together as possible. We included the boys in our plans also. We acted like little kids. I was about to be 18 and I still went play in the park. I was always taught to live my life crazy and love every second of it, and that's exactly what I was doing. Nikki and I were now best friends again. After only spending a day with her, we caught up so much. Now I remember why we were best friends. Joe and I were doing better than ever. We pushed each other on the swings and the pictures we took were unbelievable. MySpace! I was so huge on MySpace now that the world knew about Joe and I. All of a sudden everyone wanted to be my best friend. I've had a few death threats, but the girls were still falling over Joe like nothing ever happened. I still lived in Wyckoff, but since the press always got pictures of me in LA with the boys, they thought I lived somewhere in LA. Pretty soon the boys would be moving to Dallas. I couldn't wait. Their house was so big and it was so much closer to me. My birthday came too soon because only 2 days after my birthday, Nikki had to go back to Missouri. When I walked in the Jonas household, I did just as Joe said and acted surprised as everyone jumped up and yelled "Surprise! Happy Birthday Ashley!" I didn't have to act surprised though, because I really was. There were people there that I didn't even know, but I introduced myself. We all mingled for a little while and then Ms. Denise brought out the most beautiful cake I had ever seen in my life. It was yellow and blue. Mine and Joe's favorite colors. She baked it herself, so I already knew it was going to be just as delicious as it looked. Ms. Denise was such a wonderful cook. I was happy to know that she took her time and put loads of love into a cake for my birthday party. She was amazing. There were 18 candles on the cake and I got to blow them out after everyone sang happy birthday. Of course, I made a wish before I blew them out. My wish was that me and Joe's promise would be kept. He stood next to me and after I blew out my candles, he kissed me on the cheek and I saw the camera flash. His mom got a picture of it. "Dude! That was like, perfect timing!" Nick screamed. We all laughed at him because just like me, he was so random. There were a few cupcakes right next to me, so I picked one up and walked over to Nick, who was just 5 feet away. "Nick, that was so random; just like this!" I slid my finger across the top of the cupcake and wiped the icing on his cheek. "Awe! Ashley! You're so horrible! But that was hilarious. What about this one?" He grabbed the cupcake from me, and put little dots of icing all over my face. This was going to be the best day ever! Nick was a little brother to me and I loved him. I always told him that if any girl broke his heart, that I would literally break her face. We would always talk about girls and stuff. He trusted me to give him advice, so I always gave him the best advice I had to offer. -------------------------------------- Awgh. Ashley and Nick have a close relationship! Holiday Cooking: Sicilian Fig Cookies - Part I
Clara's Holiday Special! Cucidati Fig Cookies Part I Recipe: Cucidati Cookies (Sicilian Cookies by Clara) FILLING Boil 2 cups of water and add 1/2 cups sugar. Let cook. 3/4 cups shelled hazel nuts 1/2 cups shelled almonds 1/2 cups shelled walnuts 1/2 cups shelled pecans Toast all nuts on cookie sheet separately (different nuts take different times to toast). Grind together with nuts: 1/2 lb. diced candied fruit 1/4 lb. dark raisins 1/4 lb. light raisins 1/4 lb. dates (pitted) 1 orange with rind 1 dried tangerine with rind 2 lbs. figs or (2 packages or atleast 14 oz. apiece) Mix well all the ground ingredients. Add 1/2 or 3/4 of the cooled sugar water to make a nice soft mixture (be careful not to make it too soft). Save the rest of the sugar water mixture. Add 1/2 cup whiskey to ground ingredients. Mix well and let stand overnight. Keep in a fridge or cool place. You may need to add the sugar-water the next day. DOUGH 10 cups flour 1 cup lard 1 1/2 cups sugar 1 cup cold milk 2 heaping table spoons baking powder 1 table spoon vanilla 12 eggs Work flour and lard like you would pie crust. Melt sugar in milk. Beat egg and add vanilla. When flour and lard are mixed well, add baking powder, then add the other ingredients and mix until you have a nice liable dough. Let stand at least one hour, or this can be made the day before. Cover with a clean dish towel and put in the fridge or a cool place. Roll dough. Fill with filling (you can use a pastry bag). Cut and bake on ungreased cookie sheet at 350 until golden brown. If you like icing, mix milk, powdered sugar and a teaspoon of vanilla (preferably white vanilla). Brush on cookies and sprinkle with little colored candies. COMPLETE INGREDIENT LIST -Flour -Lard -Sugar -Milk -Baking Powder -Eggs -Powdered Sugar -White Vanilla -Little colored candies for topping -Filbert nuts (or Hazel nuts) -Almonds -Walnuts -Pecans -Candied fruit -Dark raisins -Light raisins -Dates -1 Orange -1 Tangerine rind -2 packages of figs or at least 14oz. apiece -Whiskey
