Iris's Christmas Party--Part 3
Iris asks Hank if Tommy's okay, and Hank says he is, but he just doesn't get to come home tonight, and Hank was at loose ends. Iris is glad that Hank came, and wants to introduce him around, but he declines, saying this isn't his thing, and then the mayor pulls Iris away to defend his position on the Arts Council, but Iris grabs Rachel as the mayor is pulling Iris away from Hank and has her talk to Hank. Rachel asks after Tommy. Ryan offers to pay the dry cleaning bill for Brett's dress since he spilled champagne on it when he bumped into her. She tells him he can add it to her check for her fixing the heat. When Ryan tells her that his accountant usually takes care of that sort of thing at the end of the month, Brett tells Ryan to tell his accountant that she would like to eat through the end of the month. Ryan's response is to offer to let Brett dump a full glass of champagne over his head and call it even. Brett tells Ryan not to tempt her. Matt returns with a drink for Brett then and asks Ryan if Brett has been telling him about her ideas for the building. Ryan sarcastically suggests that Brett wants to organize the tenants to picket, but Matt corrects him and says that Brett has really good plans to renovate. When Ryan continues with his sarcastic bent and says he's sure Brett's plans are phenomenal, Brett retorts, "Damn straight." Felicia arrives with her new agent, Barry Rader, and is not happy to see Sloane Wallace there, not even showing sympathy when Rachel tells Felicia that Sloane will be all alone for the holidays. John tells Hank he's glad to Hank is there, and to try some of the food because if Iris knows anything, it's a good caterer. Iris returns to Hank's side after John leaves, but then her phone by the elevator buzzes and she has to give a message to Ryan: there's a special delivery for him downstairs. Ryan finds that odd since no one knew he was going to be there, but excuses himself to take care of it. When he presses the button for the elevator to go downstairs, the doors open on Marley and Dennis playing tonsil hockey. The horrified Donna blurts out her daughter's name. Iris grins, Donna is disgusted, and Dennis, with a rakishly charming grin, apologizes to his mother for his and Marley's lateness. Iris happily greets the couple, then Marley apologizes for embarrassing Donna. Donna tells Marley that's all right; it's just one of those evenings, and then says hello to Dennis as an afterthought. He returns the greeting. Felicia declines Barry's offer of champagne and sends him off to get her some mineral water. After Barry leaves, Rachel asks Felicia if Barry is going to represent Felicia. Felicia tells Rachel she's thinking about it, and Barry has a lot of good ideas. Rachel says Barry would gain a lot, because Felicia is an established commodity. Felicia tells Rachel that Barry thinks Cory is monopolizing her too much. Matt talks up Brett's renovation plans to Ryan, who then excuses himself to find Spencer. Brett snidely asks Matt if Ryan went to Spencer to get his allowance. Hank watches the partygoers and feels increasingly out of place, to the point that when Iris is finally able to break away from her hostess duties and return to his side, Hank tells her that the party at the office was a fake, wasn't it? This is the REAL Cory shindig. Iris is surprised. Thanks to Janie for the scenes.
