Water - Indian Hills Nevada

Indian Hills NV - Clean water is essential for everyday life. Our goal at the Indian Hills General Improvement District’s Water Treatment ... all » Plant is to ensure that you are provided with water that is safe to drink. Our water system consists of several wells, 4 storage tanks, the Hobo Water Treatment Plant and distribution system. Water is pumped from several District wells to the Hobo Water Treatment Plant, where it is treated and distributed to customers. The District removes color and contaminants from its water with state of the art equipment and a process called “Ozonation” in which ozone is injected into a stream of water. Our goal at the Wastewater Treatment Plant is to remove harmful pollutants from domestic and industrial liquid waste so that it is safe to return to the environment. The District’s Wastewater Treatment Plant receives and processes approximately 400-thousand gallons of sewage a day and we have the capacity to handle 600-thousand gallons. The process involves primary and secondary treatments; first solid objects are removed and discharged to a plastic lined storage bin for landfill disposal. It then goes through another process to remove additional grit, which has settled at the bottom of the tank. The next phase involves a biological treatment process, which biologically degrades the waste material. The treatment consists of alternating phases of aeration and non-aeration, which allows additional solids to settle at the bottom. For the final phase, the disinfected water is used to wash down primary treatment equipment. What’s left is stored in six ponds and used for disposal through irrigation of the Sunridge Golf Course. If you would like a tour of the District’s Water and Wastewater Treatment facilities, please contact the main office at (775) 267-2805.  «

Award-winning Innovative Biogas Purification Technology

Biogas, which consists of mainly methane, a greenhouse gas, is the natural byproduct of decomposition generated at landfills, wastewater treatment facilities, livestock farms, food processing plants, meat processing plants, and in new emerging processes such as ethanol and cellulose ethanol production. Basically, any process that incorporates anaerobic digestion is a candidate for biogas purification. Why purify biogas? When biogas escapes to the atmosphere, it is approximately 17 times more potent as a greenhouse gas than carbon dioxide. There is a huge benefit to the environment and to industry if the purified biogas is burned to generate heat or power which displaces fossil fuel and reduces carbon dioxide emissions. What is being purified? Biogas often contain large quantities of hydrogen sulfide, that gives methane that "rotten-egg" smell, and is highly toxic at low levels. When methane, containing hydrogen sulfide is burned, hydrogen sulfide is released into the atmosphere, causing acid rain. Using the methane with hydrogen sulfide directly in generators to produce heat or power causes severe corrosion, performance problems, and results in high maintenance and repair costs.
